Rebekah Brooks has addressed News of the World staff and told them that she is staying on as chief executive of News International.

Acccording to Twitter reports from Sky News political correspondent Sophy Ridge the decision to close the paper was taken because the brand had become “toxic” and two years of trouble could be seen ahead.

She also reports that Brooks is staying on because she has become a “conductor” for all the criticism.

News of the World journalists have today apparently found themselves unable to use email and the internet. Brooks has reportedly said she will do her best to find them jobs elsewhere in News Corp.
