Journalist Derek Brown has died aged 63 after 41 years working for The Guardian.
A Guardian obituary published today details Brown’s varied career with the paper from the Belfast office to Westminster and then the newsdesk. He worked in Brussels, India and Jerusalem as a correspondent before joining the website staff in 1997. In recent years Brown had written once a week for Guardian Weekly.
According to Peter Preston: “Derek Brown was (and will always remain in the memory of those who knew him) a brilliant journalist. Brilliant in Northern Ireland at the depth of the Troubles: brilliant in Jerusalem and Delhi: a brilliant observer and writer about politics from Westminster and Brussels: and, back at the Guardian ranch, a brilliantly efficient, companionable figure on the newsdesk.”
