Channel 4 leads the Royal Television Society Journalism Awards shortlist with 13 nominations, including in the news coverage category, the international category and for the scoop of the year.
Coverage of the Chilean Miners Rescue brought Channel 4 its news coverage nomination and a Dispatches programme Politicians For Hire, produced by Vera Productions, brought the scoop nomination.
The BBC and ITV both received 11 nominations – including a BBC double in the international current affairs category for The Wounded Platoon, produced by Mongoose Pictures, and Secret Iraq produced by Quicksilver Media.
ITV’s nominations include news programme of the year for ITV News At Ten, and Tom Bradby from ITV News nominated for the specialist journalist award.
Sky News has been shortlisted in eight categories – these include Alex Crawford who is once again nominated for television journalist of the year and Mark Kleinman who is also up for the specialist journalist prize.
The three contenders fighting it out for news channel of the year are Sky News, the BBC News Channel and Al Jazeera English.
The awards ceremony, to be hosted by Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy, will take place on Wednesday, 23 February at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
