Richard Desmond is looking to revamp the news offering on Channel 5 by ending Sky News’s deal to produce its daily bulletins – according to a report in today’s Guardian.
Desmond, the owner of the Express, the Daily Star, OK! magazine and a string of adult channels, took control of the UK’s fifth terrestrial channel in July in a £103m deal.
According to today’s report, Desmond has been talking to a string of other broadcast news providers about changing the current service on offer on Channel 5.
BSkyB extended its deal to supply Channel 5 with its news programming last year taking the arrangement into 2012.
