Former Telegraph owner Conrad Black has hinted that he may be poised to return to newspaper ownership.
Black swapped Coleman Federal Prison in Florida for his Palm Beach mansion in July when he was released on bail pending an appeal into his conviction for fraud.
The former chairman and chief executive of Hollinger International has served more than two years of a six-and-a-half year sentence after being convicted of three counts of fraud and one of obstruction in July, 2007.
Black told BBC Radio 4’s Media Show yesterday that he might against become a newspaper proprietor but he did not foresee it being a ‘chief occupation’for him.
Ask why, in an age of falling circulation and revenues, he would still be interested in newspapers; Black said there was still a hunger amongst readers for printed papers.
Black said that so many papers in the US had been devalued that a number were now in the hands of ‘receiver managers’and it was possible to pick up real bargains.
