Sean Lightbown, a student at Bath University, has become the recipient of the Sports Journalists’ Association training bursary.
SJA committee member Keith Elliott said: ‘We were very impressed by Sean’s maturity and by what he had done with the university’s sports pages. He’s got the right attitude and I reckon he’ll do very well.”
The SJA award of £1,800 – which is made twice annually – is aimed at helping students and recent graduates keen to start a career in sports journalism.
The bursary will meet half the fee for Lightbown – who has been sports editor for two years on his university newspaper – to attend this summer’s intensive course in magazine journalism, run by PMA Media Training, in London.
