Independent and Evening Standard proprietor Alexander Lebedev has suggested that he is the victim of a state-run vendetta after being questioned by Moscow police, The Times reports.
The paper today reports allegations made against Lebedev in the Kommersant newspaper in Russia and says he has been questioned by police in Moscow, but it states there is no formal investigation.
Lebedev spokesman Artyom Artyomov told The Times: “Alexander Lebedev denies the allegations…and thinks that these allegations made by Mr Skvortsov have nothing to do with reality. The main aim of spreading this deceitful information is to avoid criminal liability.”
Reportedly Lebedev was involved in a dispute with Skvortsov over the return of funds used to pay for two sawmills.
