A former Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times journalist is standing as a Green Party candidate in the upcoming general election.
Barry Bolton is standing for the first time as a candidate in the Southend West constituency currently held by Conservative MP David Amess.
Bolton began his journalism career working for local newspapers in Essex. He then worked for several years in Africa and China before joining the team that would launch The Independent in 1986.
Bolton has also held senior positions at The Sunday Telegraph and was assistant business editor at The Sunday Times. He currently works for the NHS Choices website and as a legal proof-reader for a City law firm.
