Elspeth Thompson, gardening and interiors writer for the Sunday Telegraph, has died following an illness.
Thompson, who was 48, had been writing a weekly column in the Sunday Telegraph since 1996, and had previously written for the Observer as well as presenting a popular four-part series on trees for Radio 4.
Sunday Telegraph life editor Anne Cuthbertson told the Telegraph: “Elspeth Thompson was a lovely and talented woman whose exquisite writing touched the hearts of so many people.
“She had an extraordinary ability to make everything beautiful. All of us who knew her at The Sunday Telegraph will miss her desperately and our thoughts are with her family.”
Elspeth Thompson is the author of many books including A Tale of Two Gardens (2003), The London Gardener (2004) and The Wonderful Weekend Book (2008).
The Telegraph reported that Thompson had been suffering from an extreme depression and she took her own life last Thursday.
