Scottish weekly, the Arbroath Herald, celebrated its 125 anniversary last week.
The paper was originally published as a four-page free title when it hit newsstands for the first time on 5 February, 1885.
The Herald, which was launched by a man named John Brodie, remained a free paper until September 1887 when it marked its move to an eight-page title by introducing a cover price of a penny.
The title, which is now owned by Johnston Press, carried a four-page pullout marking it 125th anniversary last week by detailing a number of the key stories it has covered in its history.
Brian Stormont, Herald editor, told HTFP: “Times have changed hugely since John Brodie started the newspaper in 1885 but our commitment to providing the town with a weekly publication to be proud of continues.
“Having started here as a junior reporter more than 20 years ago, I am proud to be the editor of the newspaper on this special anniversary, but as I always tell people, we are merely custodians – the newspaper belongs to the readers.”
