MI5 ageny in privacy legal battle with Standard and The Guardian

By Dominic wireposts

A former MI5 agent is sueing the Evening Standard for revealing his name and his lawyers have also threatened The Guardian with an injunction if it names him.

The man’s name is now widely available online.

In a further twist, the man is in the news because he is seeking to publish a memoir called Siberia under a pseudonym.

The Guardian reports that the man is suing the Standard for breach of confidence.

The use of a so-called “super injunction” against The Guardian to hinder its reporting of the oil company Trafigura prompted justice secretary Jack Straw to launch a new consultation on their use.
