Print-first policy reaps sales dividend for Brum Mail

By Dominic wireposts

Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson is understandably chuffed after his decision to hold on to an exclusive for the print edition resulted in a 4,000+ copy uplift in sales.

The story in question was a letter from footballer Gareth Barry explaining why he was leaving Aston Villa which was published last week.

Dyson explains that he kept the story for the print edition becuase he knew if he published the letter online other outlets would just cut and paste it. As it was, they had to credit the Birmingham Mail when reporting the story.
