The head of France’s public service TV network, France Télévisions, has threatened to resign after president Nicolas Sarkozy unveiled further plans to tighten his control on the state-funded broadcaster.
Sarkozy is planning to scrap advertising on the network – which accounts for about 30 per cent of its income – and, according to the Financial Times, also wants a change in the law that would allow him to appoint its chairman.
