Journalists working for MSN and Yahoo won’t be joining forces any time in the near future, after Microsoft announced over the weekend that it was withdrawing its bid to buy the web firm.
According to the FT, Microsoft had increased its offer from $31 to £33 per share, but the Yahoo board was still holding out for $37.
The paper says the collapsed talks mean Yahoo will now go back to “business as usual” and forge closer links with Google and AOL.
The Times reveals that AOL has now approached Microsoft about a possible tie-up.
Yahoo, meanwhile, is reported to be continuing talks with News Corp about a possible alliance to compete against Google.
