French president Nicolas Sarkozy’s new wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, yesterday attacked the press in an opinion piece for a national newspaper, reports The Guardian.
Bruni-Sarkozy was responding to the scandal that erupted after a magazine website claimed the president had sent a text message to his ex wife asking for her to come back.
In her article in Le Monde, Bruni-Sarkozy attacked journalists who reported gossip and cited unnamed sources.
The president has since dropped a criminal case against the magazine which reported the allegation because the reporter is said to have apologised to his wife.
The journalist, Airy Routler, is standing by the story. He said although he did not see the text message, he received the information from a strong source and that Sarkozy was trying to cow the press.
