The Polish Federation has complained to the Press Complaints Commission over a string of stories in the Daily Mail.
In a lengthy letter, The Guardian reports, the federation complained that some stories’ headlines used “offensive, emotive anti-Polish language”.
A spokesman for the Mail said the paper had frequently published positive stories about Britain’s Polish community, but defended its right to run stories about “bogus asylum claims” and “tax-dodgers” wherever the culprit is from.
It is unclear under which clause of the PCC Code of Practice the federation is complaining. There is no clause explicitly covering race, though clause one, Accuracy, forbids papers from publishing “inaccurate, misleading of distorted information”.
