By Rachael

The founder of The Big Issue, John Bird, is demanding a tax rise on super-strength lagers in tomorrow’s budget, according to the Mirror.

Bird, who set up the homeless magazine in 1991 and was once himself homeless, said firms that brew potent larger such as Carlsberg Special Brew are destroying the lives of problem drinkers.

He said: “”In a sensible world we would ban it completely – but at least try to price it out of alcoholics’ markets.”
