Birmingham Post site relaunches on 29 February

By Martin Stabe wirepost

The Birmingham Post is to relaunch on 29 February, the paper’s editor, Marc Reeves, has revealed in the first post on his new blog.

In a second blog post, Reeves said the paper would resist the temptation to run a 24/7 news operation using the new site:

The Post’s key journalistic quality is one of intelligent analysis and explanation of often very complex issues. Our readers would rather watch three or four key stories develop through the day – and, moreover, trust us to choose the right stories – than be bombarded with dozens and dozens of bitty one-fact newsbreaks.

The new site will emphasise the Post’s business focus by feature bloggers from various sectors of Birmingham’s business community, Reeves told Press Gazette

Blogging Post reporter Joanna Geary, who has been put in charge of recruiting the bloggers for the new site.

Introducing his blog, Reeves wrote that he had, until now resisted the temptation to blog because “some other newspaper editors’ blogs seem to consist of Meldrewesque griping and self-serving ‘look-aren’t-I-normal-like-you’ condecension.”

The Post’s Trinity Mirror sister title, the Birmingham Mail, relaunched its site last month as part of Trinity Mirror’s gradual rollout of a new regional newspaper websites.

The Mail is at the very early planning stages of developing community-based education websites, editor Steve Dyson told Journalism.co.uk last month.

The project, which would involve the newspaper hosting web sites for schools and other educational institutions in the area, could be similar to the community web sites run by the Mail’s Trinity Mirror stablemate, the Evening Gazette of Middlesbrough.
