ITV is in talks to lay off its regional affairs staff, a move that is indicative of further rationalisation of its regional news service, according to sources within the company.
More than 20 regional affairs staff have been invited to apply for six new jobs over multiple locations. Regional affairs staff help to handle ITV’s key relationships in the regions such as contact with local government. One source told Broadcast magazine that the move was “the beginnings of further rationalisation” in regional news.
Last September, ITV announced plans to cut its regional news budget and scale back the number of news programmes from 17 to 9.
