ITV wants to ‘kill’ Border TV, presenter charges

By Martin Stabe wirepost

Adam Powell, long-serving reporter, presenter and NUJ leader at ITV’s Border Television, has accused ITV of trying to “kill off” the station.

“The figures show that Border Television is a profitable business and is the cheapest ITV region to run. Yet ITV want to effectively kill off Border Television,” Powell said, according to the News & Star.

“ITV want Border Television’s advertising revenue but don’t want to provide a proper news service for the region.”

ITV plans to merge its Border and Tyne Tees regions as part of its regional restructuring. After Christmas, an anonymous group of local business figures had a £12m bid for Carlisle-based station turned down.
