A number of journalists including Independent editor-in-chief Simon Kelner have paid tribute to the Independent columnist Miles Kington who passed away this week.
In today’s Independent Kelner said: “He was loved by readers, and adored by colleagues who were awestruck by his total lack of pomposity, his modesty and his desire to be as unobtrusive as possible. He was a colossus of colloquy.”
Other tributes include one from Richard Ingrams, editor of The Oldie, who praised Kington for his ability to produce engaging writing on any subject.
Kington wrote for the Independent since its birth 21 years ago. Prior to that he wrote the Moreover column in the Times, which ran from 1981 to 1987.
Today’s Times has run a selection of Kington’s Moreover columns, including one on how to be a good journalist.
