Press Gazette has had an editorial shake-up following the departure of reporter Patrick Smith to join media business website PaidContent as its UK correspondent.
Paul McNally has been appointed to the position of news editor – heading up our web news coverage.
He trained on City University’s post graduate magazine journalism course and has previously freelanced for us as well as BrandRepublic.com, Media Guardian, Media Week and Broadcast. I’m delighted we’ve managed to snap him up before one of our rivals did.
He’ll be working with reporter Rachael Gallagher, myself and Press Gazette’s network of freelance contributors to ensure that our website – and our daily email newsletter – remain the best source of news on the web for UK journalists.
Readership of pressgazette.co.uk is currently growing fast and now stands at just under 100,000 “unique users” a month.
Julie Tomlin remains deputy editor of Press Gazette – with a focus on the magazine – and the current PG line-up is completed by associate editor, production, Pamela Horne.
New media editor Martin Stabe is the other journalist to have left us in recent months. Like Patrick he has left for a high-flying role – joining Emap as web editor of Retail Week.
