Sunday Times City editor James Ashton has moved to the same job at the Evening Standard
Ashton will replace Chris Blackhurst, who was last month appointed editor of The Independent.
Ashton began his journalism career in 1998 after completing a postgraduate newspaper journalism course at City University, London. His first job was at Reuters.
Ashton has worked for The Sunday Times for four years and prior to that was chief City correspondent at the Daily Mail for three and a half years.
Talking about his new job he said: 'I think the Evening Standard is a great paper. It's clearly had great success in moving from paid-for to free. It's a great City team and I'm delighted to be able to join it."
