Johnston Press has appointed Alex Gubbay to the position of head of digital content at the regional newspaper group.
Gubbay is currently social media editor for BBC News where he had been responsible for leading the editorial integration of user-generated content and social media initiatives.
He will take up his new post in June when he will be responsible for digital content strategy and play a central role in the development of Johnston Press’s news websites.
Henry Faure Walker, digital and business development director, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Alex, one of the BBC’s most experienced interactive editors, to Johnston Press.
‘He joins us at an exciting time as we look to develop further our digital content output both through our existing news websites but also through mobile and other emerging platforms.’
Prior to his appointment as social media editor, Gubbay was news editor of the BBC sport website. He is a graduate in Economics and French from the University of Leeds, where he was also editor of the student newspaper.
The appointment of Gubbay follows the appointment of Faure Walker, formerly general manager of the publisher’s Scotsman Publications division, in September.
Faure Walker, who joined Johnston Press in 2002 as business development manager, replaced digital strategy director Lori Cunningham who left the company last June.
