Alan McCabe made editor of Aberdeen Evening Express

By Press Gazette

Alan McCabe, former deputy editor of Aberdeen’s Evening Express, has been appointed as the paper’s new editor.

McCabe took up his new role on Monday replacing Damian Bates who was appointed editor of sister title, the Press and Journal – one of Britain’s oldest dailies – in January.

Prior to his appointment as deputy editor last year, McCabe was an assistant editor on the paper. He has also previously worked for the Daily Record.

Alan Scott, managing director of Aberdeen Journals, told staff of the appointment in an internal memo.

‘I am pleased to announce the appointment of Alan McCabe as editor of the Evening Express with effect from 14th March, 2011,’Scott wrote.

‘Most of you will be familiar with Alan as he is currently deputy editor of the Evening Express.

‘I am sure you will all join with me in wishing him every success in his new role.”

According to the most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Aberdeen’s Evening Express sold an average of 49,253 copies each day during the second half of last year – this was a 3.3 per cent year-on-year decline in sales.
