The Daily Mirror has three out of six places on the shortlist of the Cudlipp Award for outstanding popular journalism.
The winner for the prize, which is awarded by the British Journalism Review, will be announced at The Press Awards on 5 April.
The finalists are
- Daily Mirror: Hope Not Hate – a campaign against racism in politics.
- Daily Mirror: Penland and Sommerlad Investigate – consumer rights column which won last year’s prize
- Daily Mirror: Pride of Britain – annual awards event celebrating the achievements of ordinary people.
- London Evening Standard: The Dispossessed campaign – investigation and campaign which has raised more than £5m to help London’s poor.
- The Sun: Haiti Alive Aid – campaign to release a charity single for the Haiti earthquake victims.
- The Independent i – although the new cut-price caily newspaper was not officially entered, the BJR judges decided to shortlist it anyway as ‘an example of journalistic innovation in the Cudlipp mould…a lively new daily newspaper”.
