Phil Johnson has been appointed as the new editor of the Johnston Press-owned Berwick Advertiser and Berwickshire News.
Johnson, who takes up his new post on Monday, replaces Stuart Laundy who left the papers in September for a new role with the Oban Times.
‘It is an honour and a privilege to be taking on two local newspapers with such long and proud histories,’said Johnson, who has family roots in the Berwick area.
‘The Berwick Advertiser and Berwickshire News are woven into the fabric of the communities they represent and I look forward to working with a talented and dedicated editorial team to move the titles to the next stage of their development.”
Johnson started his career in 1998 as sports editor of the Southern Reporter in Selkirk before joining The Scotsman as a sub-editor two years later.
He has spent ten years in Edinburgh, most recently as sports production editor of Scotland on Sunday and The Scotsman.
The Berwick Advertiser and Berwickshire News are paid-for weekly papers published by the Tweeddale Press Group, which is owned by Johnston Press.
