Five trainees recruited as ten jobs go at MEN

By Dominic Ponsford

News that Trinity Mirror is to cut 10 editorial jobs at MEN Media will not the affect the recruitment of five trainee journalists across the weekly and daily titles, Press Gazette understands.

The company announced yesterday that it was to integrate the editorial teams of the Manchester Evening News with that of 22 sister weekly newspapers when all the titles move from Manchester to Oldham in September.

The move comes a year after another round of job cuts saw 78 editorial jobs go at MEN Media as the weekly newspaper offices were closed and their staffed moved into the same building as the MEN.

The latest change comes as MEN Media is in the midst of recruiting five trainee journalists to work across the daily and weekly titles.

Trinity Mirror told Press Gazette that the trainee scheme is going ahead and that the recruitment of the five successful candidates is to happen ‘imminently”.
