Mail Online stays top national website

By Press Gazette

Mail Online maintained its position as the most visited national newspaper website last month, according to figures released today by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

The Daily Mail & General Trust‘s website drew an average of 2,366,495 daily browsers in April as it was the only national newspaper website to grow its audience month-on-month.

Mail Online audience increased by 3.4 per cent from the 2,246,746 that visited the site in March.

Traffic to all other national newspaper sites dipped month-on-month in April, an unexpected happening in the weeks running up to the General Election, although the month did contain two bank holidays over the Easter weekend.

The website of the Guardian drew an average of 1,837,331 browsers each day last month, down 4.41 per cent month-on-month.

The Daily Telegraph’s website drew an average of 1,583,305, down 0.10 per cent month-on-month.

The website of the Independent drew 455,255 browsers in April, down 1.21 per cent down on its March figure, while Mirror Group Digital recorded a fall in the number of average daily browsers of 7.28 per cent to 441,768.

News International‘s Times Online and Sun websites dropped out of the monthly web audit last month in preparation for the move to paid-for access.
