Media data company Gorkana has been sold to media planning and monitoring group Durrants in a deal worth around £25m.
Backed by private equity investments company Exponent, Durrants said it will now have a combined business turnover of over £40m, after acquiring Gorkana.
Durrants also bought Metrica, a media analysis group in October of last year.
Gorkana was launched in 2003 by Alex Northcott and Michael Webster. It’s main business is keeping a comprehensive database of journalists and media outlets which it sells to PR agencies.
Northcott told Press Gazette that: ‘From a journalist’s point of view nothing will change for them. About 70,000 journalists receive our free alerts and we have about 10 different types of alerts tailored for their interests, and they will, of course, continue to receive them.’
The PR database feature, which allows journalist to look up a particular PR agency, will also remain a free service – he said.
