The Observer’s political editor, Gaby Hinsliff is to leave the paper after nine years, it emerged yesterday.
Hinsliff, who has been political editor of Guardian News and Media’s Sunday paper for five years, made the announcement on her Twitter page yesterday morning.
She wrote: “Just resigned from the Observer. Sad to be leaving after nine years but very excited about the future.”
In a separate post Hinsliff wrote: “Am off to get a life. moving out of London to write, think, do some projects I never had time for and see rather more of my husband and son.”

Hinsliff succeeded Kamal Ahmed as political editor of the Observer in 2004. Prior to her appointment she had been a political correspondent on the Observer for four years after joining the paper from the Daily Mail in 2000.
Hinsliff has worked at the Mail, as a news and political reporter, for four years after starting her career at the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, which she joined in 1994 after being educated at Queen’s College, Cambridge.
