BBC News’ education and social affairs correspondent, James Westhead, is leaving the corporation to join teacher training charity, Teach First.
Westhead will end an 18 year broadcasting career to become the charity’s director of external relations on 5 October.
During his time with the BBC, Westhead has held a number of senior reporting roles including two years as Washington correspondent and a stint as the corporation’s health correspondent before leading its education news coverage.
An award-winning reporter, Westhead was a regular face across the BBC’s various news outlets as he reported on major news events, including on the 2005 Boxing Day tsunami and the New Orleans floods.

His new role will see Westhead lead the charity’s fundraising, communications and policy activity.
He said: “After a decade of reporting on intractable social problems, I am looking forward to helping tackle them.”
