The Ministry of Justice has selected Advertising Standards Authority director general Christopher Graham to replace Richard Thomas as Information Commissioner.
Thomas is stepping down from the post at the end of June after six-and-a-half years in charge of the data and Freedom of Information watchdog.
Graham, who has led the ASA since 2000, will be grilled by a cross-party group of MPs sitting on the justice select committee in a pre-appointment hearing in parliament.
The cross-party group of MPs will produce a report ‘setting out their views on the candidate’s suitability for the post”, the Ministry of Justice said.
While the committee does not have the power to veto any appointment, ministers have said they will ‘consider the committee’s views’before deciding whether to proceed.
