Thelondonpaper has further increased its lead over rival London Lite in the London free evening newspaper war.
Distributors of the News International title handed out an average of 99,455 more copies than London Lite distributors each night in September, according to the latest set of data released by ABC today.
Circulation of thelondonpaper rose 1.8 per cent year on year to 500,490 – while its Associated rival saw a small year-on-year decline, down 0.2 per cent to 401,855.
The gap between the two evening papers is about 9,600 copies greater than it was in September 2007 – up from 89,851 to 99,455.
Free morning title Metro has increased its nationwide circulation by more than 10 per cent this year.
The Associated paper was distributed to an average of 1.36m people each day in September, up 10.7 per cent from last September’s figure of 1.23m.
London business freesheet City AM, which announced this month that it was looking to expand to Manchester and Edinburgh, rose back above the 100,000 circulation mark after a two-month dip over the summer.
In September, it handed out 100,673 copies a day – up from 83,459 in the holiday month of August. Its year-on-year circulation remained stable, down a fraction of a per cent.
The London Evening Standard rose 2.27 per cent year on year and 6.76 per cent month on month to 297,750.
