Magazine ABCs: OK leads celebrity magazine sector

OK magazine led the weekly celebrity magazine field in today’s magazine ABC figures, with sales in the six months to June up to an average of 607,048, an increase of nine per cent year on year. OK’s circulation is 90.3 per cent actively purchased.

The Northern and Shell weekly was, however, down 11.2 per cent compared with the previous six months, when it averaged 683,451 sales.

Bauer Consumer Media’s Closer saw a loss of 7.5 per cent year on year with a six-monthly sales average of 527,325.

Heat, now without editor Mark Frith who stepped down after 10 years in June, dropped 15.8 per cent year on year to 470,129 – equivalent to a loss of 88,000 copies. New editor Julian Linley began his new role in June.

IPC’s Now dropped 9.5 per cent year on year to 447,094 while New was just behind with sales of 434,218, a 1.8 per cent increase.

Hello posted a mild increase of 1.7 per cent year on year with a six-monthly average circulation of 427,054. Northern and Shell’s Star also saw positive sales growth figure with a 13 per cent boost year on year and sales of 287,368.

Natmags’ Reveal lost a fifth of its sale – 20.2 per cent – compared with 12 months ago, with a sales average in the six months to June of 277,002, down from 347,257 last June.
