The return of Channel 4 reality TV show Big Brother has led to traffic increases for entertainment news websites, according to new data from web measurement firm Comscore.
The figures, released today, show a four per cent increase in monthly unique visitors to UK entertainment sites in June compared with May, up from 10.17m to 10.57m.
But traffic to newspaper websites in general over the same period remained stable at 14.74m, despite titles such as The Sun providing rolling coverage of Big Brother on a dedicated microsite.
According to Comscore, the Channel 4 website saw the biggest spike in traffic last month, up 32 per cent to 4.6m unique users compared with the previous month.
Other networks to post increases in traffic included the Guardian Media Group, up 14 per cent to 4.3m and Reed Business Information, which rose five per cent to 2.43m.
The biggest publishers and broadcasters in the top 20 ranking of UK websites were the BBC, which was fifth with 18.5m visitors and the Daily Mail and General Trust, 12th with 9.85m.
CNET Networks’ sites came in 15th position with 8.39m unique users; and News International was in 20th place with 6.05m.
The Comscore figures measure UK visitors only, and exclude any visits from public computers and mobile phones.
