Red editor’s letter on stepmothers led to her new novel

By Rachael Gallagher

Editor of women’s monthly Red, Sam Baker, has drawn on her own experiences as a stepmother, as well as those of her readers, to pen her third novel.

Baker first wrote about being a stepmother in her editor’s letter, provoking a huge response from her readers, wanting to share their own experiences.

Published by Harper Collins, The Stepmother’s Support Group is a novel about women’s friendship and support for each other when they’re brought together through being stepmothers.

Writing about what she knows, Baker’s main character is Natalie, a magazine journalist whose lover is a widower with three children.
