Independent publisher Development Hell claims to have saved music monthly Mixmag from a ‘terminal decline’as it celebrates its 25th birthday this month.
The title was bought by the publishers of Word magazine in December 2005.
‘It’s the analogy of a band being signed to a major label or a smaller independent,’editor Nick DeCosemo said. ‘There were bigger issues going on at Emap. It was in terminal decline and Development Hell managed to shore it up.”
In 2000, Mixmag recorded a peak circulation of 106,111, but its circulation gradually decreased, partially blamed on a lull in dance music. The title’s circulation for the second half of 2007 was 35,817.
He said the title had put the focus back on good journalism, making it more appealing for advertisers.
The commemorative issue is out on 17 April with a cover gathering together 25 of the biggest names in dance music in the past 25 years.
