Peter Cassidy, long-time picture editor at Southern News Service, also known as Cassidy and Leigh, died on Saturday, 1 March after a battle against cancer.
The former teacher joined the agency, still run by his brother Denis and Don Leigh, as a photographer in 1964 and left in the late Seventies to start his own video business.
During his time there he helped put a number of great potential picture men on the path to Fleet Street. Denis said: ‘Peter brought his teaching talent into photography, and some of today’s leading lensmen have much to thank him for.
‘I have lost not only a brother, but a true and loyal friend.”
Cassidy is survived by his wife, Anna, daughter, Sarah, sons, Thomas, Dominic, William and David, and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held at St Peter and St John’s Catholic Church, Caesar’s Camp Road, Camberley, Surrey at 12pm on Wednesday, 12 March, followed by burial at St Michael’s Cemetery, London Road, Camberley.
The family has requested that rather than flowers, donations should be made to The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, Waverley Lane, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8BL. Registered Charity Number: 264501 www.phyllistuckwellhospice.org.uk
