How to pitch to: Selvedge Magazine

By Press Gazette

Pitch to: the editor, at editor@selvedge.org

Type of articles: Selvedge accepts both short and long pieces, photo stories across the spectrum of what the magazine is about: anything with a link to textiles. It can be historic or contemporary, on fashion, interiors, fine art and can take the form of features, interviews or suggested reviews. It’s crucial that the pitch includes suitable, high-quality images or suggestions on how to obtain them.

How to pitch: Email is best – with slides or digital files that illustrate the subject attached, along with a one-page outline and a prose synopsis of the article. Don’t not send original slides or transparencies with speculative proposals as material will not be returned.

Post-pitch: If you haven’t heard back from us within two weeks, resend the full pitch and photos and follow up with a phone call.

What will impress: We make our decisions primarily on the quality of the images submitted. Selvedge is an image-led magazine and no writing, however good, can justify inclusion unless accompanied by extremely high-quality images.

Rate: We pay a discretionary honorarium for commissioned articles at a rate of £10 per 100 printed words unless otherwise stated. Selvedge does not pay a drop fee and acceptance of an article is not a guarantee of publication.

Other info: See the current issue of Selvedge for details of a writers/ illustrators competiton. Closing date for entries is 29 February.
