News of the World editor Andy Coulson (pictured) is set to be questioned by the Press Complaints Commission about the phone tapping of members of the royal family by the paper’s royal editor Clive Goodman.
The PCC said it has ‘discussed the issue of phone message tapping in light of the Clive Goodman case’and will write to Coulson to ask a number of questions, once Goodman has been sentenced in the coming weeks.
Goodman, 48, from Putney, Southwest London, along with private detective Glenn Mulcaire, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to unlawfully intercepting the mobile phone messages of princes William and Harry, among others, between 1 November 2005 and 9 August 2006.
During the trial Coulson apologised for Goodman’s actions and said he would take full responsibility.
He said: ‘I have put in place measures to make sure [phone tapping] will not be repeated by any member of my staff.”
