Guardian promotes two senior web journalists

By Press Gazette

Two senior journalists on the Guardian’s website have been promoted with one being given a newly created position.

Current assistant Editor of Guardian Unlimited Neil McIntosh will become head of editorial development while deputy editor of the Commentisfree blog Tom Happold has been appointed to the new post of network editor.

McIntosh will now take on greater responsibility for overseeing the delivery of journalism across all platforms. Happold has previously been editor across news, politics and most recently, commentisfree. He will now be responsible for the daily output of the site.

McIntosh joined GU from The Guardian in 2004, leading development of the site's network of blogs and, later, the launch and development of its podcasts. Prior to joining Guardian Unlimited in 2004, he was deputy editor of the Guardian’s technology section.

Happold began his journalism career as a researcher on Channel 4's "A Week in Politics" in 1995. He worked on various TV programmes including GMTV's "Sunday Programme", Channel 4 News and Channel 4's First Editon before moving to the BBC to become a senior broadcast journalist on BBC1's "Ten O'Clock News".

He started as editor of the politics site on Guardian Unlimited and has worked as editor of news and most recently commentisfree.
