Rajars: Slow start for Channel 4 digital radio

By Press Gazette

Channel 4's first foray into radio has got off to a slow start, with the digital talk station OneWord losing 20 per cent of its listeners.

Figures released today by Rajar show Oneword's audience has fallen from 129,000 to 104,000 in the last 12 months.

Channel 4 bought a 51 per cent stake in the station last year, and is slowly rolling out programmes from its online "Channel 4 Radio" service on OneWord, beginning with its "Morning Report" — a 30-minute news bulletin made available as a podcast and broadcast on OneWord every morning from 7.30.

Today's Rajar figures show digital and internet radio is taking off at a good pace — with a 16 per cent increase in DAB radio listening year on year. More than seven per cent of the UK population listen to radio on their mobile phone, and two million adults listen to podcasts on their mp3 player.
