Ex-EastEnder to co-host new BBC magazine show

By Press Gazette

A former EastEnders actress has been announced as the co-presenter of the BBC’s forthcoming primetime magazine show.

Nadia Sawalha will join Adrian Chiles as the co-presenter of BBC One’s new daily live magazine programme, The One Show.

The BBC’s head of cross-factual production, Tessa Finch, told Press Gazette: “The decision to launch this programme was based on an awareness that we need to offer a real alternative to what’s available on other channels at that time.

“It’s not about winning the slot, it’s about doing what the BBC should be doing and offering a real alternative to viewers who want something intelligent to look at.”

The series will run for four weeks this summer at 7.00pm and will feature a mix of interviews, factual features and topical stories.

The show will be broadcast live from a purpose-built studio in Birmingham where a production team of 25 journalists will also be based.

The programme’s reporters include undercover journalist Anna Adams, who made a name for herself when she appeared in the BBC’s recent investigation into estate agents.

Natural history presenter Kate Humble and Peter Snow’s son, historian Dan Snow, have also been signed up to report for the programme.
