Broadcasting House reopens in a Royal way

By Press Gazette

The BBC Radio 4 Today programme’s John Humphrys was due to meet — but not interview — the Queen when she visited Broadcasting House on Thursday (20 April) to officially reopen the home of BBC Radio following part of its redevelopment.

The Queen has visited Broadcasting House four times since it was built in 1932 and this fifth visit was to mark the 80th anniversary of the granting of the corporation’s Royal Charter.

The Queen was due to meet a range of BBC Radio presenters including John Humphrys, James Naughtie, Nicky Campbell, Shelagh Fogarty, Chris Moyles and Sir Terry Wogan. She was also going to view a recording for Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and meet presenter Jenni Murray.
