Five presenter moves to Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera International has appointed Barbara Serra as a presenter in its London broadcast centre.

Serra will present the news at weekends and will report from across Europe during the week.

Before joining Al Jazeera International she was one of the main presenters on Five News. Serra, who was raised in Denmark, was the first news reader working on UK terrestrial TV who spoke English as a second language. She first worked at the BBC as a reporter for BBC London News, produced on Radio 4’s Today Programme and regularly presented Euro- News on BBC Radio Five Live. In 2003, she joined Sky News as a reporter.

She has covered stories including the death of Pope John Paul II and the Michael Jackson trial. Serra trained as a journalist at London’s City University.
