The Sunday Sun’s acting editor, Colin Patterson, has been promoted to the position of editor on the Newcastle title following the departure of Peter Montellier to become associate editor on the Newcastle Journal in January.
Patterson, who was previously Montellier’s deputy, is appointing his own deputy as the paper gears up for a mini relaunch at the start of the next football season.
Patterson, who will report to Newcastle Evening Chronicle editor Paul Robertson, said: "I am passionate about the Sunday Sun and this is absolutely a dream job for me."
Trinity Mirror’s regional managing director in the Northeast, Steve Brown, added: "He has done a really good job as acting editor since January and he has the experience and passion for the paper that the title needs. It has also been a very popular appointment with the staff.”
