Former personal finance editor of The Sun Isabelle Kassam has been
named national finance journalist of the year just three months after
being made redundant from the paper as part of a round of editorial
cutbacks.
Kassam picked up the £5,000 first prize at the Bradford and Bingley
Personal Finance Awards. She also won the prize for consumer campaign
of the year for her Child Trust Funds articles in The Sun.
Alexander
Joliffe from the Financial Times was runner-up in the category for
national journalists. The Financial Times was named broadsheet
newspaper of the year and the Sunday Express won the tabloid category.
Miles
Brignall from The Guardian was newcomer of the year, trade journalist
of the year went to Jeff Salway from Money Management and regional
journalist of the year went to Francis Shennan from The Herald.
Scoop
of the year went to James Salmon from Money Marketing for reporting a
spat between the Prime Minister and the Financial Services Authority
and “breaking the story before many political reporters”.
