Tesco’s Alford checks out for APA awards

Former Daily
Mirror investigative reporter Dawn Alford has been nominated for two
customer publishing awards following her move to Tesco magazine in
February.

Alford, who once bought cannabis from Jack Straw’s son
as part of a Mirror sting story, is up for Editor of the Year in the
awards, run by the Association of Publishing Agencies (APA), while her
magazine is shortlisted for the Most Effective Retail Title gong.

Other
Cedar titles in the shortlist include British Airways magazines High
Life and Business Life, which have both been shortlisted in the Most
Effective Travel Title section. Business Life editor Tim Hulse has also
been shortlisted as Editor of the Year.

Rival contract publisher
John Brown Citrus has also been nominated for a raft of awards, with
Waitrose Food Illustrated up for five, including Editor of the Year for
William Sitwell, Designer of the Year for Brian Saffer and two
nominations in the Journalist of the Year category for Kevin Gould and
Andrew Jefford.

The company has a total of 16 nominations in 11
categories, including an Editor of the Year nomination for Carlos
editor Michael Jacovides.

The awards aim to recognise titles that
“combine strong design and editorial elements with measurable results
against clients’ objectives”
