Three soldiers from the regiment at the centre of last year’s Daily
Mirror torture pictures scandal were this week indicted for war crimes.
The men, from the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment, were charged with
inhumanely treating Iraqi detainees in September 2003 and with killing
an Iraqi prisoner. The incident in question was not related to the one
depicted in the pages of the Mirror in May last year, also involving
the QLR, which cost then editor Piers Morgan his job.

trainee journalist was under pressure this week after it emerged that
he was a member of a controversial Islamic group. Trainee reporter
Dilpazier Aslam, who has written news stories and a comment piece about
the London terror attacks, was revealed in The Independent on Sunday to
be a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir. The group advocates the foundation of a
new state on strict Islamic principles and is banned in Germany and
Holland, but not the UK. The Guardian declined to comment on what it
said was an internal staffing matter. Pictured is the Richard
